Indeed, they waited until precisely the same time the following year to examine whether the sun had affected the visibilty. Not sure of the outcome

Re Ladbroke Grove: I recently read that the GWR had been a pioneer in searchlight-type signals , where there is only one light, which actually changes colour. As the main cause of the Ladbroke Grove crash is thought to have been reflected sunlight from a non-lit signal lens, is it possible that a searchlight signal could not have been mis-read in that way, and might have prevented the over-run?
